Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Q & A

What causes hormonal fluctuations?

The symptoms of hormonal changes affect both women and men, often producing unwanted and uncomfortable changes in your body.

Hormonal changes tend to happen as we age. Some women start to experience these changes in their 30s, while men may notice the effects in their 30s or 40s.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) may relieve unwanted symptoms and help you look better, feel better, and enjoy a better quality of life.

Bioidentical hormones, which are made from plants and are biologically identical to estrogen and testosterone, help replace the hormones you’ve lost.

What are the symptoms of hormonal changes in women?

The signs of hormone imbalance in women include:

  • Fatigue
  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Weight gain
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Cold hands and feet

Other signs could include wrinkling skin or acne.

What are the symptoms of hormonal changes in men?

Men may experience drops in testosterone levels, causing:

  • Lower sex drive or erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Loss of muscle mass or bone mass
  • Increased body fat (especially in the waist area)
  • Mood changes
  • Depression
  • Brain fog or loss of mental sharpness

Men also may experience hot flashes or night sweats.

How can I find out my hormone levels?

Your provider at Regenerative Health & Wellness Medical Center draws your blood and sends it off for a thorough blood work panel.

Your results come in around a week later, and they review your results with you. If your hormone levels are low, they create a customized plan for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

What happens during bioidentical hormone replacement therapy?

The therapy is administered through a tiny pellet with a customized dosage of hormones. Your skin is numbed, then your provider inserts the pellets in an area in your upper hip or buttock area. The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes.

Most patients see results 3-4 days after an estrogen pellet is inserted, and 7-10 days after a testosterone pellet is inserted, although results vary. The pellets remain in your body, gradually releasing hormones over the following months.

You’ll have a follow-up appointment within six weeks of pellet insertion. In addition, your provider may adjust your dosage over the first year.

You don’t need to suffer the effects of hormone loss when bioidentical hormone replacement therapy at Regenerative Health & Wellness Medical Center can help restore your natural balance. Call today to schedule a consultation.
